at Presbyterian Church of Lawrenceville

I Thessalonians 2:8 -- So deeply do we care for you that we are determined to share with you not only the gospel of God, but also our own selves, because you have become very dear to us.

Commitment Statement

Youth And Young Adult Ministries (YAYA) at the Presbyterian Church of Lawrenceville strive to create a Christ centered, warm, challenging, affirming and inclusive environment that empowers each individual to teach, serve, worship, play and learn as we honor God in today's world.

Youth and Young Adult Ministry

Youth And Young Adult Ministries is not merely a "program" on Sunday and Wednesday evenings. It is a constant, living, breathing journey experienced throughout every hour of every day as a seamless and continual line guided by the Spirit of God which is always at work.

Young people, just as adults, ask questions like Who am I? What is the purpose of life? What can I do well? How do I fit in? Who is this Jesus everyone is talking about and why does he care about me? Who is God? What is God? What is Grace?

Our youth and young adult ministry is designed to provide a young person with a place where he or she can feel the freedom to be himself or herself while welcomed and appreciated for who he or she is as a wonderful and talented child of God. As a part of this community of growing disciples, one will experience new and unique ways of God's loving grace through worship, service, study and fellowship.

Balance is the KEY to Youth Ministry

There are four areas of focus that make up YAYA Ministries. These four areas are essential to a balanced youth ministry program and are present throughout the three different areas and age groups. For youth ministry to be a vibrant part of any faith community it helps to have these components present.

Worship:
Worship is the center of the Christian community. It is a time set aside, where members of a faith community can corporately step outside of everyday their everyday lives to celebrate life, offer prayers, confess sins, sing with fervor, listen for God's call, take notes, give thanks, spread peace, come together, walk with Christ and leave with a sense of calm, peace, energy, completeness and wonder or with questions, struggle, uneasiness. ALL of these things, feelings and approaches are a part of what it means to worship and glorify God, remembering that it is all about God, not all about us.

PhotoMission:
When we hear the word "mission" we think of different things. There are many ways one can experience mission. While a participant in YAYA Ministries, one will have a chance to have many different opportunities to experience a wide range of mission. Local, regional, cross-continental and international mission experiences are all very important in gaining a diverse understanding of mission through Christ. Jesus calls us to be his hands and feet in serving all God's children.

Study:
Whether "education" means going to school, being home schooled, traveling, teaching, listening to sermons or music, working on a farm or reading, it all boils down to the willingness to open our eyes, ears, minds and hearts. We will spend time with the Bible, not only learning/reviewing, but also asking and searching for God's voice within the pages. We also will be learning about how to relate to a text that was written over 2,000 years ago. Come with questions, answers, struggles, celebrations, useless trivia and an open mind.Fellowship:
Fellowship is community. Community is fellowship...they are synonymous. Plato, the great Greek philosopher and teacher said, "You can learn more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation." I believe Plato knew what he was talking about. Fellowship is one of the MOST important pieces of the pie! Having fun, true and honest fun is something we do not put enough emphasis on both as adults and as youth. I think of fellowship as just "be-ing." I had a friend tell me once, "We are human be-ings, NOT human do-ings. Come and just 'be'"!
