Cooperative Preschool
We welcome all children and their parents
to a truly unique
learning experience, located in the heart of the Village.
Outstanding Preparation for Kindergarten
Our cooperative nursery school was established to nurture a young
child's education and development in a safe, sound, and personal
environment. Under the guidance of skilled teachers, children
learn social skills, enhance their cognitive abilities, and build
coordination by exploring their environment and interacting with
each other. Children are given a comforting routine, but are also
encouraged to be curious, spontaneous, and creative as they learn
to think for themselves.
Proven Philosophy
We believe play is the primary means through which young children
learn. Our curriculum, based on both structured and guided creative
play, is designed to help children develop independence, play
well with other children, and enjoy sustained relationships with
adults outside the family. We encourage each child to grow at
his or her own pace recognizing the "whole" child: personal awareness,
emotional well-being, socialization, communication, cognition,
and perceptual motor skills.
Integrated Curriculum
An integrated curriculum advances children's understanding in
a natural context. Children actively participate in the learning
process, thus developing a sense of initiative and independence
as they are given the freedom to make their own choices. This
approach includes:

Unique Emphasis on Parental Involvement
We build our program to include parents. We believe parent interest
and participation gives children the support and security they
need to become active learners. Our cooperative nursery school
is a wonderful way to learn "positive guidance skills" and be
involved in your child's early education.
Parents take turns serving as the third adult in the cooperative morning program. In this role of "helping parent," they work alongside the teacher where they can observe their child, share in his or her growth and get to know the staff and other children. We actively encourage mothers and fathers to share their individual talents and interests. Children love sharing their school experiences with parents, and eagerly look forward to being the "helping child."
Each family serves on a committee or on the Executive Board to help in the operation of our school.
Seasoned and Caring Staff
Our teachers are well-trained, experienced and enthusiastic. Their
warmth, patience and creativity are evident in their close attention
to the unique needs of each child. Each class has a teacher, an
assistant and a helping parent giving us a student/instructor
ratio of 4-to-1 for the three-year old class, and a 6-to-1 ratio
for the four-year old class. We are proud of our staff and promote
their professional growth.
Special Events
We schedule a variety of student field trips throughout the year
with parents as drivers. Periodically, police officers, dentists,
and others visit the school to teach the children about health,
safety and the surrounding community. In addition, parents benefit
from lectures by local educators and other child specialists.
Enriching Environment
The nursery school contains two warm and stimulating classrooms
complete with teacher-selected toys and a variety of learning
centers including a library, dramatic play corner, block area
and sand station. Children go outside daily in an enclosed play
yard containing climbers with slides, a sandbox, log cabin, seesaw,
and much more. An indoor gymnasium, equipped with tricycles, parachutes,
tunnels and climbers provides fun and important opportunities
for large motor development.
Scholarships
Some scholarship money is available and is awarded on the basis
of need.
